The Old Swan & Minster Mill is set to stage its first ever Petanque Tournament at the Bank Holiday Weekend on the 5th and the 6th of May 2013.
Over from Tasmania to lead the tournament, will be president of the Hobart Petanque Club and accomplished teacher, Judy Whiteaker. Everyone can join in, from absolute beginners who have never picked up a boule, to the more serious competitor, who can shoot, lob and fanny like it’s second nature. The tournament will culminate with a fun BBQ and will be complimentary to residents.

A sport ideal for all ages and abilities, who want to participate socially or play competitively, the two-day tournament will cover the introduction to the sport, rules, techniques and skill needed to outwit one’s opponent. By the end of the sessions, attendees will know the art of spinning and bombing – techniques that could be a matter of do or die! And to round off the fun two days, a competition will be held, together with a fun garden kitchen BBQ.
Judy is a proficient player and has been a member of the Tasmanian interstate team on four occasions and has been selected as a member of the Australian Senior Team to play against New Zealand in the Trans Tasman Challenge. She is a registered club level umpire and as a retired teacher/trainer has extensive experience in teaching and training a range of ages.
Prices start from £155 in the Minster Mill rooms, which are located in the converted mill buildings and overlook the landscaped gardens. For the old period rooms in the 15th Century Old Swan, guestrooms start from £175 up to £375, per night, based on double occupancy, including breakfast.
The beautiful setting of the Old Swan & Minster Mill located in the heart of stunning wild-flower water meadows and picturesque gardens, provides the perfect quintessentially countryside setting for a game of petanque.
